Hampton operates its own water and sewer systems rather than relying on the Henry County Water Authority, buying wholesale water from the City of Griffin, and permits go through the city's Building Department. Plumber Atlanta is a no-cost phone connection to independent plumbers; it does no work itself. Call the number on this page to be connected with a local plumber in Hampton.

Plumbing services in Hampton
Speedway town in western Henry County
Hampton took its present name in 1873; before that it was called Bear Creek. It is in western Henry County along U.S. 19/41 and Georgia 20, about 26 miles south of downtown Atlanta, and is best known as the home of Atlanta Motor Speedway. Growth has been steep: from 3,857 residents in 2000 to 8,368 in 2020.
A housing stock built mostly this century
That growth shows up in the houses. The median Hampton home was built in 2005, and only about 14% predate 1980. In homes this young, the jobs that come up most are water heaters reaching the end of their first service life, leaking PEX or CPVC connections, pressure-reducing valves, toilets, disposals and shower valves. In the older houses in town, drain and supply pipe repairs tend to be more involved.
City water and sewer
Henry County Water Authority serves much of the county, but inside Hampton the city runs its own water system. The City of Griffin sells Hampton wholesale water through a pipeline from Griffin's Harry Simmons treatment plant that ties in at the Spalding-Henry line on Georgia 19, and the city also has its own wells. Wastewater goes to the city's Bear Creek Water Pollution Control Plant in the Flint River basin.
For a water or sewer problem in the street, contact the City of Hampton. For anything on your property, start with a plumber. Ask the city for its annual water quality report if you want to see test results.
Permits
The city has its own Building Department and Building Inspections office, publishes a City of Hampton Building Department permit application, and takes building permit filings at City Hall. Ask the Building Department which plumbing jobs, such as a water heater replacement, need a permit before the work starts.
Gas leaks
Atlanta Gas Light owns the gas pipes across its metro territory; confirm the utility on your bill. If you smell gas, leave the house first, then call 911 and AGL at 877.427.4321 from outside.
Hampton compared with the city of Atlanta
Atlanta's water is drawn from the Chattahoochee and treated by the city itself. Hampton's comes from Griffin and city wells, delivered by a much smaller municipal system, and its sewage goes to a plant on Bear Creek. Permits come from Hampton, not Atlanta or Henry County.
What happens when you call
Describe the problem, say whether the water is off, and mention the age of the house if you know it. You will be connected with an independent plumber who serves Hampton, and price and scheduling are between you and that plumber.
