Whether a Dallas home is on city water or Paulding County water depends on the address, while sewer service and plumbing permits inside the city limits belong to the City of Dallas. Plumber Atlanta is a free phone referral to independent local plumbers, not a plumbing firm. Call the number on this page to be connected with a local plumber in Dallas.

Plumbing services in Dallas
Paulding County's seat
Dallas is the county seat of Paulding County, about 28 miles northwest of downtown Atlanta. Its population roughly tripled between 2000 and 2020, reaching 14,042. The historic Paulding County Courthouse anchors downtown, the Silver Comet Trail and the Pumpkinvine Creek Trestle are nearby, and the Pickett's Mill and New Hope Church battlefield sites are in the surrounding countryside.
Two possible water providers
The City of Dallas runs a small water system, roughly 37 miles of pipe serving about 2,650 customers inside the city water service area. It buys its water from the Paulding County Water System, whose supply comes from Richland Creek Reservoir, fed by pumping from the Etowah River, plus water bought from the Cobb County-Marietta Water Authority. Paulding County Water System also lists Dallas among its service areas, so some addresses that say Dallas are county customers. Your bill tells you which.
City water is disinfected with free chlorine rather than chloramine. The city publishes a service line inventory with its yearly water quality report, and that report is the place to check current results.
City sewer and Public Works
The city operates its own wastewater treatment plant, and the Public Works sewer division cleans and repairs sewer mains and responds to main-line and service-line backups. A leak in a city street or right-of-way goes to Water Maintenance at 770-443-8110, extension 1402. Inside the house, or in the private line on your side, it is a plumber's job.
Permits and backflow
Community Development issues plumbing permits for homes and businesses inside the city limits, with inspections done by Bureau Veritas (770-443-8110, ext. 1203). Outside the limits, Paulding County issues permits. The city's backflow program covers commercial, industrial and multi-family customers, who need certified testers and must turn in their testing and applications by April 1.
Newer homes, mostly
The median Dallas home was built in 2002, and about 17% predate 1980. In the subdivisions, the usual work is water heaters, PEX fittings, fixtures and pressure valves. In the older houses near downtown, expect more drain line and supply pipe repairs.
Gas leaks and calling
Atlanta Gas Light owns the gas pipes. If you smell gas, get out of the house and then call 911 and AGL at 877.427.4321. For plumbing, call this page's number and mention whether you are inside the city limits. You will be connected with an independent plumber who serves Dallas; you agree on price and scheduling with them.
